After hearing this song a few times on Pandora, I decided I liked it enough to find it on Youtube, but then quickly had a “video killed the radio star” moment, as the singer wasn’t at all what I expected. However, I have to give credit where it’s due…Relax!
Funny, while I was researching this song, I noticed that this album was released almost exactly 22 years ago (10-25-88). The crazy part is that I’ll bet I haven’t heard this song in probably twenty years. How in the world did this song fall of the face of a cliff in 1990? The band featured Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Roy Orbison, and Jeff Lynne of E.L.O. Orbison died soon after the album, and didn’t appear in the video, although (in tribute) his voice does while the camera shows a picture of him and an empty chair (with a guitar) during his chorus (the singers all take turns). Fantastic song regardless, and shameful that it’s been hidden so long.
Yet another reason for me not to listen to terrestrial radio again. If you don’t like the radio stations available, make your own! Thanks Pandora, hope you guys know how to whistle. If you like the song, you’ll be doing lots of it 🙂
